They should NEVER have been shut. I blame the unions for sabre rattling, buoyed up by activists within- all to bring down the tories innit😡. I work in under 5’s and the devastation that is now becoming apparent in terms of delay and safeguarding. But back to this - why bother going to school , when teachers can’t be bothered either- better opportunities out doing county lines- at least the ‘layer cake’ provides for them and doing work with a ‘purpose/goal .Teachers are now reaping what they sewed.

Why is it that so many of the current crop of teachers are like this? Same exact thing in the States.. I taught in American public middle and high school for a couple years , and far as I could see nearly half the teachers around me hated teaching -- and this was about 20 years before "The COVID" . So, why are they filling the positions if they really don't like to do it? It's an absolute mystery to me. Wasn't true when I was a elementary and high school student myself -- those dunderheads that clearly hated teaching then were a definite minority (I can remember both of them to this day. Only two bad, teaching-hating teachers out of a twelve year long student education history -- that's got to be entirely unheard of these days.)
I think it's so much more common now because of: 1) Too many graduates with worthless degrees, so few other options; 2) Too many entryists, those who enter it for the ideological purpose of indoctrination, not because they want to teach; 3) Too much managerialism, attracting robotic managerialists.
My own children, now late 30's, were also "incredibly good at sniffing out bullshit". In their parents, and in their schools. It would be too mild to say they cheered me up. They recalled more rational and better versions of myself.
I asked younger friend's (Scottish) school-children how they were coping with covid-school, betraying no agenda of my own, or so I thought. I couldn't open them up, probably because they were several decades younger than me, and detected my own bullshit. But they seemed weary, and surly. and said it was no big deal. I felt sad, and didn't hassle them.
I think the response you mention (weary and surly) says it all. They didn't want to admit (to themselves mostly) that they now saw their teachers as scared and pathetic - silly. If pupils think their teachers are a joke, full stop, then it's very serious. That's not the same as pupils laughing at teachers. It's more akin to contempt. Truth is, many teachers WERE contemptible, during Covid. In fact, they're contemptible over trans stuff too.
Don't forget that 'teachers' are the main group in society that perpetrated WOKE ideology in the first place.
I say, sack them all and then re-hire the ones that did not get Covid vaccinated.
Furthermore, it would be very useful to advertise that the taking of more Covid Vax boosters will significantly reduce CO2 emission and help stop climate change.
Hopefully! The rush to produce 'look at me' resources - aimed at garnering praise - was very damaging. It was competitive and the pupils got forgotten, in the rush to 'share resources' and get brownie points from colleagues. In fact, it was often also aimed at impressing parents. The problem was, it wasn't done with much thought for what the pupils needed: direct teaching.

Kids could learn more from Micky Disco than the clown teachers. Are you familiar with this legendary titan, of the Euro-rock scene?
Oh yes. Micky Disco- he of channel 9 fame. If these kids run with the county liners, that would be aGCSE in business studies and/or economics.

All of the above, then.

One positive of the teaching profession's behavior during the first lockdown is that remote, online teaching will never be a thing.
