'WE EMIGRATED'
MEMORIES OF KARACHI
Monitoring the 1970s influx,
my father took drastic action.
An impulsive man, unafraid
of excessive temperatures in
either weather or food, aged
eleven I found myself a resident
of Kharachi - ‘vibrant with extreme
lifestyle challenges’ according
to Wikipedia - explaining its
cheery folk migrating here.
Even Pakistanis detest
the place: our loss,
their gain. During my
sweltering youth I lived veiled,
grinning tribal gangs planning
a thirteenth treat by shoving ghee
sweets through our letterbox.
I write this experiencing
no mercy returning
to dear old Blighty.

Surely that's Luton in the photo not Kharachi, that's the Town Hall in the background !
Yes- I pity you- Islamabad would have been a far better choice- better weather and better food. The tribal relations are more vibrant. The marriage rate is almost 100% - a problem with sex ratio’ s a few years back was cured by a real boot to diversity where men could marry 4 women at a time.-One downside is the higher the murder rate- nobody can explain it really , lack of evidence apparently, seems to be higher in females- which bucks world trends- no one can seem to explain this phenomena- lack of evidence in most cases apparently
